Tampa International Airport Celebrates New Nonstop Service to Bogota With Avianca

Tampa International Airport and Avianca celebrated the launch of inaugural service between Tampa and Bogota on Monday with a gate celebration, ribbon cutting ceremony, and Colombian entertainment.

On Monday (March 31, 2025), Tampa International Airport (TPA) and new airline partner Avianca celebrated the launch of new nonstop service to Bogota (BOG) with a special inaugural event that featured a cake, a ribbon cutting ceremony, live Colombian entertainment and more. The inaugural flight actually took to the skies on Sunday, March 30, 2025. This marks the first regularly scheduled direct flight TPA has offered to South America, and the first to a new continent in nearly 50 years. Bogota has been one of the airport’s most requested international destinations for many years, as over 36,000 Columbian-born people reside in the Tampa Bay area. The route will now operate four times weekly with an Airbus A320neo featuring 12 Premium Economy and 168 Economy Class seats.
In Monday’s announcement, Tampa International Airport’s CEO, Joe Lopano, said,
“Tampa International Airport has achieved a major milestone in connecting Tampa Bay to Bogota. With new airline partner Avianca, TPA now has nonstop flights to South America for the very first time, giving our residents unparalleled access to Colombia and beyond. I’m grateful to Avianca, as well as the efforts of our community partners throughout Tampa Bay, for helping us make this longtime goal a reality.”
Also commenting on the launch of new service to Bogota, Visit Tampa Bay’s President and CEO, Santiago Corrada, said,

Inbound customers to Bogotá from Tampa will also enjoy seamless one-stop connectivity to over 75 destinations across 25+ countries in the Americas and Europe via Avianca’s extensive network. Customers will also have access to 25 destinations in Colombia, including vibrant cities such as Medellín, Cartagena, Cali, Quibdó, San Andrés, Leticia, and more. Avianca operates a network of 165 routes across more than 25 countries, including eight new destinations.
