On Thursday (October 8, 2020), TAP Air Portugal announced the introduction of complimentary COVID-19 coverage. The policy will provide €500 if a customer is diagnosed with COVID-19 while traveling and hospitalized as well as an additional €500 for quarantine expenses in the event a trip must be extended. In addition to hospitalization costs, the coverage also includes a lump sum benefit of €1,000 if a hospitalized customer is admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) due to COVID-19 related complications. The coverage is automatic for customers booking round-trip domestic flights on the carrier’s website for all ticket rates except for Discount and Basic rates. The insurance is valid for booking for up to nine passengers with a maximum of 30 days, starting up to 90 days from the date of purchase. TAP Air Portugal's new COVID-19 insurance, underwritten by Chubb European Group SE, only covers permanent residents of Portugal. Full details on the insurance coverage is available here.
