In Thursday’s announcement, TAP Air Portugal’s CEO, Luis Rodrigues, said,
“In the second quarter of 2024, we continued the necessary path of structural transformation of TAP. The investment in people and operations continues to confirm the focus and show results: a significant reduction in disruptions, the continuous increase in punctuality and regularity, and the increase in NPS (the customer satisfaction index), with consequent growth in revenues. Special mention goes to the Maintenance and Engineering area, which is beginning to realize its potential.
“The strong performance in the second quarter allows for a positive net result in the semester, which, despite being reduced, is achieved for the second consecutive time, but now without salary cuts. We continue on the path we set out to follow, with the commitment of our people and the support of our stakeholders: to establish TAP as a sustainably profitable company and one of the most attractive in the industry.”
The carrier’s second quarter 2024 maintenance revenue increased 71.4 percent versus Q2 2023 to €71.8 million, largely attributable to increased engine shop activity, while cargo and mail revenues declined 9.9 percent to €39.3 million.
TAP has expanded their Brazil network with new service to Florianopolis and resumed service to Manaus, and now serves a total 13 Brazilian destinations with 15 routes. During the second quarter, the carrier also resumed summer seasonal service from Lisbon to Ibiza, Alicante, Palma de Mallorca, Menorca and Agadir, and also launched new seasonal service from Lisbon to Caracas, with the return via Funchal. As of June 30, 2024, TAP’s operating fleet included a total of 99 aircraft, with 68 percent of the medium and long-haul fleet consisting of new generation aircraft, up from 27 percent at June 30, 2019.
