Tore Jenssen will succeed Stein Nilson as Widerøe’s Managing Director and CEO effective July 1st, 2024. Mr. Jenssen previously served as Norwegian’s Fleet Manager and Chairman of the Board at Widerøe.
On Friday (June 28, 2024), Norwegian Air Shuttle announced that Tore Jenssen will succeed Stein Nilsen as Managing Director and CEO of Widerøe effective Monday, July 1st, 2024. Mr. Jenssen previously served as Norwegian’s Fleet Manager and Widerøe’s Chairman of the Board. Norwegian’s CEO Geir Karlsen will also take over as Chairman of Widerøe on July 1st. With an aviation career spanning 17 years, Tore Jenssen brings extensive experience in finance, operations, fleet management and leasing. He has been in Norwegian Group’s management since 2023, and has held key positions such as CEO and Accountable Manager for Norwegian Air International (NAI) and COO for Norwegian’s asset company and for the Norwegian Group.
In Friday’s announcement, Norwegian’s CEO, Geir Karlsen, said,
“We are very pleased to be able to appoint Tore Jenssen as the new CEO of Widerøe. Tore brings with him a unique combination of deep industry knowledge, management experience and a genuine understanding of Widerøe’s important role in Norwegian society. His in-depth knowledge of both Widerøe and Norwegian gives him a unique starting point to lead the company into the next phase. I am convinced that Tore, together with the talented team in Widerøe, will continue to develop the company’s strong position in Norwegian aviation and at the same time explore new opportunities for growth and innovation.”
Also commenting on his new role as Widerøe’s Managing Director and CEO, Tore Jenssen, said,

We will continue to be the lifeblood of the rural areas and bind the country together, while at the same time we will also create new and greater synergies, together with the Norwegian group.”
Norwegian Air Shuttle was established in September 2002 with four domestic routes and has since carried over 300 million passengers. The airline Group, including Widerøe, is the largest in Norway and currently employs approximately 8,200 team members. Most employees are based in Norway in Oslo, Trondheim, Bergen and Stavanger, or at the company’s head office at Fornebu in Bærum. The carrier also has offices in Riga and Barcelona, as well as bases in Alicante and Malaga. The Group’s fleet, including Widerøe, now totals 136 aircraft, with 87 Boeing 737-800 and 737-8 MAX jets in the Norwegian fleet, and 45 De Havilland Canada Dash-8 and three Embraer E190-E2s in Widerøe’s fleet. Widerøe Ground Handling also serves 41 Norwegian airports. Norwegian currently offers affordable flights on a short-haul network of destinations in the Nordic countries and to key European destinations. Norwegian aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 45 percent by 2030.
