On Monday (June 12, 2023), Turkish Airlines announced the release of a new advertising film celebrating their 90th anniversary. The video takes viewers through time from the past to the present, highlighting the growth of the airline which started with only five aircraft and less than 30 employees in 1933. Today, Turkish Airlines employs 82,000 team members, and operates a fleet of 418 aircraft serving 344 international destinations. The film starts with Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk signing the document establishing Turkish Airlines, followed by an aircraft taking off in Istanbul in 1933, only to land once again in Istanbul in 2023. The captain is first bewildered, then proud, realizing that the dreams they had envisioned 90 years ago have come true.

In Monday’s announcement, Turkish Airlines’ Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bolat, said,

“Today, Turkish Airlines is one of the most valuable brands in our country and the World. What brought us to this day is our values and the support of our 82,000 employees on our journey. This film, which is a tribute to each of our building blocks, tells the story of our 90-year journey from a different perspective. We are also proud to accomplish something that we can be proud of on the 90th anniversary of Turkish Airlines and the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye.”

Turkish Airlines’ 90th anniversary film was directed by Serdar Dönmez and produced by Tribal Worldwide Istanbul Advertising Agency, with cinematography by Kasper Wind. A life-size replica of a Curtiss Kingbird D2 was built especially for the project. The replica aircraft, with a weight of 1.7 tons, a length of 11 meters and a height of 4.0 meters, was completed in around two months. Scenes of the aircraft were animated using CGI technology, and the replica will now be exhibited at Turkish Airlines’ headquarters.
