On Friday (January 22, 2021), Airbus announced that Turkmenistan Airlines has ordered two Airbus A330-200 Passenger-to-Freighter (P2F) converted aircraft, becoming a new Airbus customer. This marks the first time and Airbus aircraft has been sold in Turkmenistan and when the aircraft are delivered in 2022, the airline will be the first operator of the type in Central Asia. Airbus launched the A330P2F in 2012, with the redelivery of the prototype at the end of 2017. The program is a collaboration between ST Engineering Aerospace, Airbus and their joint venture Elbe Flugzeugwerke GmbH (EFW). ST Engineering led the engineering development phase, while EFW is the holder for all Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) for the current Airbus conversion programs and leads the industrialization phase and marketing for the programs. Airbus provides manufacturing data and certification support to the program.

The Airbus A330P2F has two variants including the A330-200P2F and A330-300P2F. The A330-200P2F variant is an optimal solution for higher density freight and longer range performance and can carry up to 61 tonnes of cargo over 4,157 nautical miles (7700 kilometers). The A330-200P2F offers more cargo volume and lower cost-per-ton than other freighters with a similar range. Additionally, the aircraft incorporates advanced technology, including fly-by-wire controls, offering airlines additional operational and economic benefits.
