On Tuesday (May 23, 2023), United airlines announced a major expansion at Denver International Airport (DEN), with the addition of 35 flights, six new routes, a dozen new gates and three clubs, including the largest ones systemwide. United will double the number of early morning departures and late night arrivals at DEN, and will also add new service to San Juan (Puerto Rico) Montego Bay (Jamaica), Dayton (Ohio), Ashville and Greensboro (North Carolina) and Lexington (Kentucky). The 12 new gates will be opened by 2024 in the A and B concourses as part of a $1.0 billion infrastructure investment. United will celebrate their Denver expansion later this afternoon with the carrier’s CEO Scott Kirby and Chief Customer Officer Linda Jojo, along with customers, elected officials and local partners. Guests will enjoy a tour of United’s soon-opening club spaces and a look inside a brand new Boeing 737-9 MAX, one of about 700 new aircraft United will receive over the next decade.

In today’s announcement, United Airlines’ CEO, Scott Kirby, said,

“Denver is one of the fastest growing cities in the country and as the Mile High City’s most flown airline, it's essential that we maintain the most modern infrastructure and fleet to support our local employees and customers and deliver a great experience. Our expansion in Denver will further enable us to connect our customers to destinations across the globe and revitalize our presence at the airport with modern, customer friendly offerings.”

After the gate expansion, United will have a total of 90 gates at DEN, more than any other airline. The $1.0 billion infrastructure investment also includes a new check-in lobby, new user-friendly technology at the gates, a new ‘grab-n-go’ concept called United Club Fly and the renovation and expansion of United Club locations. This summer, the airline will open a new A Concourse club and also reopen their first two refurbished clubs on the B Concourse. All three clubs will feature two full levels of space and an upgraded design that reflects the Colorado region.

For summer 2023, United will offer nonstop service to over 150 destinations from Denver with over 450 daily departures, including service to 18 international destinations. United Airlines is the largest private employer in Denver with nearly 10,000 Denver-based team members. During 2023, the carrier plans on hiring more than 2,300 new team members in Denver, including pilots, cabin crew, ramp agents, maintenance technicians, customer service representatives and more. Overall, United plans to add around 50,000 people by 2026, including 15,000 across their network in 2023 alone.

United Airlines’ shared purpose is “Connecting People. Uniting the World.” The airline operates the most comprehensive network among North American carriers with U.S. hubs in Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, New York/Newark, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. Shares in the company’s parent, United Airlines Holdings, Inc., are publicly traded on the NASDAQ under the symbol ‘UAL.’
