On Friday (March 7, 2025), United Airlines announced a new onboard connectivity milestone with the installation of Starlink on their first regional aircraft.  From May 2025, United plans on outfitting over 40 regional aircraft per month.  Starlink can be installed in about eight hours, 10 times faster than non-Starlink equipment, and airline customers also benefit from equipment size and weight, as well as ease of install and maintenance.  As announced earlier this year, United plans on outfitting their entire regional two-cabin fleet with Starlink by the end of 2025, and ultimately, the airline’s entire fleet.

In Friday’s announcement, United’s VP of Digital Technology, Grant Milstead, said,

“Our ability to roll-out this innovative service with unprecedented speed and scale is a direct result of the advanced equipment, technology and team of experts at United.  Starlink has been a terrific partner – our combined spirit of innovation and collaboration will enable us to hit our goal of more than 300 regional aircraft installations before the end of this year.”

Customers traveling onboard United’s Starlink-equipped regional aircraft can expect Wi-Fi speeds up to 250 megabits per second (Mbps), which is around 50 times faster than the current regional connectivity solution.  Starlink access is free for all MileagePlus® members, and includes game-changing IFE experiences such  as streaming services, shopping, gaming and more.
