On Thursday (November 11, 2021), United Airlines announced the launch of ticket sales between Washington D.C. (IAD) and Amman Jordan. When flights commence on May 5, 2022, United will be the only North American carrier offering nonstop service on the route. Amman is one of five brand-new transatlantic destinations United is launching for summer 2022, with additional new service to Bergen (Norway), Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain), Ponta Delgada and Azores (Portugal) and Palma de Mallorca (Spain). Additionally, the carrier will start four new routes to popular European destinations including Chicago-Milan, Denver-Munich, Washington D.C.-Berlin and Boston-London. Flights between Washington Dulles and Amman will be offered three times weekly and the route will be operated with a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner featuring United Polaris® lie-flat Business Class seats with all aisle access, and the United Premium Plus® cabin.

In Thursday’s announcement, United Airlines’ Vice President of International Network and Alliances, Patrick Quayle, said,

“We're expecting next summer to be one of our busiest ever for transatlantic travel, and we know our customers have been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to visit unique and memorable international destinations. We're thrilled to make it easier for more travelers to have the chance to swim in the Red Sea, visit the Wadi Rum desert and simply experience Jordan's vibrant history and culture.”

Also commenting on the new service, Jordan’s Ambassador to the United States, Dina Kawar, said,

“United Airlines' launch of non-stop service between Amman and Washington D.C. will further the close economic and cultural ties between Jordan and the United States. We look forward to many years of success, and the boost to Jordan's tourism economy this new service will bring, and we will remain committed to ensuring the success of this new route into Amman.”

United Airlines will offer the largest transatlantic schedule in the company’s history for summer 2022 with nonstop service to over 30 European destinations, including the recent announcement of the addition of five new flights to London Heathrow. The carrier’s capital-to-capital service to Amman builds on the carrier's transatlantic growth from Washington D.C., including first-ever nonstop service to Lagos, Nigeria launching at the end of this month.
