UPS and the Hong Kong Airport Authority have entered into an agreement to establish a new hub at Hong Kong International Airport near the Hong Kong -Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. The hub will be built on a 20,000 square meter land parcel and is expected to be completed by 2028.
On Monday (December 4, 2023), UPS announced the signing of an agreement with the Hong Kong Airport Authority to establish a new hub at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG). The new hub will be built on a 20,000 square meter parcel of land with direct access to aircraft, and is expected to be completed by 2028. UPS’ new Hong Kong hub is being designed to handle nearly one million tons of freight annually, giving customers better and more reliable connectivity to Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area.
In Monday’s announcement, UPS’ President – North Asia District, Daryl Tay, said,
“Hong Kong continues to be an engine of growth and a critical part of UPS’s global smart logistics network. This new hub, along with our existing operations at Shenzhen Bao An Airport, demonstrate our continued commitment to Asia. We will continue to invest in areas of our network that bring unique value to our customers and create additional growth opportunities for UPS.”
A fully automated facility, the HKG hub will be powered by state-of-the-art sorting and scanning technology with environmentally friendly features. The new facility will also allow UPS to optimize their existing operations in Hong Kong by streamlining some smaller, separately located facilities. UPS has also launched UPS Premier, a ‘white glove’ service targeted at healthcare customers who require precision logistics for the shipment of critical time and temperature-sensitive products. UPS Premier is now available in seven Asian countries, as well as Hong Kong, with more locations planned to be added in 2024.
