WestJet has added new service between Calgary and Seoul Incheon to their summer 2024 schedule. The route will operate three times weekly from May 17, 2024, with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
On Thursday (December 14, 2023), Westjet announced an expansion of their international network with the addition of new service between Calgary (YYC) and Seoul Incheon (ICN) from May 17, 2024. Subject to regulatory approvals, the route will operate three times weekly with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Celebrating the route launch, WestJet has introduced the ‘Feed Your Seoul’ sweepstakes giving customers a chance to win a roundtrip flight for two from any Canadian WestJet destination to Seoul. Additionally, once regulatory approval for the route is received, entrants will be notified when tickets go on sale. The contest runs from today through 11:59 p.m. on January 4, 2023, and is open to all legal residents of Canada, except Quebec, who are over the legal age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence at the time of entry (T&Cs apply). In Thursday’s route announcement, WestJet Group’s EVP and Chief Commercial Officer, John Weatherill said,
“It is with great pleasure that WestJet will serve as Alberta's only direct link to South Korea, furthering our 787 global connectivity from our home city of Calgary. Beyond creating greater two-way tourism opportunities, WestJet service between Seoul and Calgary will increase connectivity between Western Canada and Asia generating unique business and cargo opportunities. We saw tremendous success with the launch of service to Asia last summer and anticipate our entry into Seoul will be warmly welcomed by Canadians.”
Also commenting on the new Seoul Incheon route, Calgary Airport Authority’s CEO, Chris Dinsdale, added,
“As a Hub for connecting travellers to people and places around the world we are excited to welcome WestJet's new route between YYC and South Korea's Incheon International Airport. The expansion provides additional opportunities for guests to explore the sites and experiences offered by these two incredible regions and illustrates YYC’s strength as an international gateway.”
In addition to the new Seoul service, WestJet is also increasing the frequency on their route between Calgary and Tokyo-Narita for summer 2024 to daily service. In 27 years of service,
WestJet has cut airfares for Canadians in half and increased the flying population around Canada by over 50 percent. The airline launched in 1996 with three aircraft, 250 employees and five destinations, and has now grown to more than 180 aircraft and 14,000 employees, offering service to over 100 destinations in 26 countries.
