WestJet has today announced the most substantial improvement to WestJet Rewards in the loyalty program’s 15-year history. Starting April 30, 2025, the changes will make the Rewards experience even more valuable and flexible.

On Thursday (February 27, 2025), WestJet announced the launch of an all-new WestJet Rewards loyalty program starting April 30, 2025. The changes will make the Rewards experience more valuable and flexible, while maintaining the program’s simplicity. WestJet points will now replace WestJet dollars, with one WestJet dollar converting to 100 WestJet points, which do not expire, and will be reflected in members’ accounts starting April 30th. With the program enhancements, members will now earn points and top-tier qualifying spend credit, not only on the base fare, but also on carrier surcharges and ancillaries such as seat selection, checked bags and upgrades (government taxes and fees excluded).
In Thursday’s announcement, WestJet’s Vice President of Loyalty, Steve McClelland, said,
“We are improving WestJet Rewards to bring more value to all Canadians, whether that's our frequent flyers, credit card holders or the casual traveler. That’s why we’ve introduced changes to our program across both flights and everyday partnerships, that give members so many great ways to earn points and save for flights, vacations or enhanced travel experiences.”
Additionally, WestJet Rewards Teal members will now see their earn rate on flights double to one point per dollar. Also, members will now be able to redeem for their entire airfare, including all extras and taxes, entirely with points. For the first time, members can achieve any level of tier status, including Platinum, without traveling, by spending on the WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard, or with any combination of flights and credit card spend via the updated Status Lift feature. In addition, all ticket components, except government taxes and fees, will be counted towards status.
Customers will also be able to shop at the all-new WestJet Rewards eStore, turning everyday online shopping into even more rewards. This includes the ability to earn and redeem WestJet points on merchandise and gift cards with popular retailers like Amazon, Apple, Sephora and Sport Chek. Soon, in partnership with leading Canadian brands, members will be able to link their WestJet Rewards accounts to their TELUS Rewards and Skip accounts, unlocking features like point transfer and bonus offers. Additionally, WestJet Rewards members can earn and redeem WestJet points for TELUS services, as well as earn and redeem points with Skip. Starting as early as next month, members will also gain access to fast, free Wi-Fi, presented by TELUS.
