On Tuesday (February 18, 2025), WestJet announced the launch of new service between Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS).  Starting May 29,  2025, the direct summer seasonal route will operate up to six times per week with a Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft.  This will mark the first time that WestJet will operate between Halifax and Amsterdam, also adding a 97 percent year-over-year seat increase from Nova Scotia.

In Tuesday’s announcement, WestJet’s Director – Alliances and Airport Affairs, Jared Mikoche-Gerke, said,

“WestJet’s new service between Halifax and Amsterdam opens the door for record growth in Nova Scotia through vital investment that strengthens connectivity to Europe, furthering tourism and economic opportunities.  We’re excited to see the stories that will unfold as travellers from both regions connect and discover the unique charm of these vibrant cities.”

Also commenting on WestJet’s new nonstop service, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol’s Executive Director of Operations, Patricia Vitalis, added,

“We are very pleased that WestJet will be resuming service at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and we look forward to welcoming the first flight on 30 May.   Halifax is an exciting new destination at Schiphol and will be our sixth in Canada.  The deployment of Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft contributes to our policy to encourage airlines to operate their quietest and cleanest aircraft at Schiphol.”

With nearly 30 years of service, WestJet has cut airfares for Canadians in half and increased the flying population around Canada by over 50 percent.  The airline launched in 1996 with three aircraft, just over 200 employees and five destinations, and has now grown to more than 200 aircraft and 14,000 employees, offering service to over 100 destinations across North America, Central America, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia.
