On Monday (January 13, 2025), WestJet announced the launch of new nonstop service between Calgary (YYC) and Mexico City International Airport (MEX).  Starting May 14, 2025, the route will operate five times weekly.  With the addition of the new route, the WestJet Group (WestJet and Sunwing) will offer service to 13 Mexican cities from 24 Canadian cities for 2025, more nonstop routes than any other Canadian airline, with over 200 weekly flights during peak travel periods.  Thanks to WestJet’s longstanding partnership with Aeromexico, inbound guests to Mexico City can also enjoy seamless, single check-in travel to onward domestic destinations such as Chihuahua, Guadalajara, Guanajuato, Merida and Monterrey.

In Monday’s announcement, WestJet’s VP – Network and Schedule Planning, Daniel Fajardo, said,

“WestJet’s continued investment in popular sun destinations had made us the gateway between Canada and Mexico, bolstering both countries vital commercial and tourism economies.  Service between Calgary and Mexico City opens the door for more Western Canadians to explore Mexico's vibrant culture and history, while boosting trade and tourism across North America.”

Also commenting on the new Mexico City route, Calgary International Airport’s President & CEO, Chris Dinsdale, added,

“This link between two dynamic cities strengthens Calgary's strategic position as a global hub.  As the gateway to Western Canada, we are proud to partner with WestJet to build networks for travellers from around the world.  We look forward to warmly welcoming guests from Mexico City, to discover everything our region has to offer.”

With 28 years of service, WestJet has cut airfares for Canadians in half and increased the flying population around Canada by over 50 percent.  The airline launched in 1996 with three aircraft, 250 employees and five destinations, and has now grown to more than 180 aircraft and 14,000 employees, offering service to over 100 destinations in 26 countries.
