Wizz Air will launch their largest network in Italy ever including a new Rome-Fiumicino base with four based A321neos and 32 new routes from July 2021. Rome-Fiumicino will become the airline’s 43rd base.
On Thursday (May 13, 2021), Wizz Air announced the opening of a new base at Rome-Fiumicino from July 2021. The base will house four new Airbus A321neos and the carrier will launch 32 new routes to destinations in 19 countries. The new services will complement the airline’s 25 existing routes from Rome-Fiumicino and Rome-Ciampino airports. Wizz Air has carried over 40 million passengers to and from Italy on over 200 routes since launching service in the country in 2004. The opening of the Rome-Fiumicino base follows the opening of four other bases in Italy over the last year including Milan-Malpensa, Catania, Palermo and Bari.
In Thursday’s announcement, Wizz Air’s Chief Commercial Officer, George Michalopoulos, said,

In the last 12 months we have allocated 17 based aircraft to Italy, and will continue to invest in the market, doubling our presence in the next three years, launching further operating bases and new domestic and international routes. Our brand new A321neo aircraft, as well as our enhanced protective measures, will ensure the best possible sanitary conditions for travelers, while operating with the lowest environmental footprint. The new Rome-Fiumicino base will create 100 direct jobs with the airline and over 1,500 indirect jobs. The four based A321neos will support the operations of 32 new routes to London-Luton, Liverpool, Eindhoven, Sofia, Tel Aviv, Casablanca, Marrakesh, Mykonos, Santorini, Corfu, Zakynthos, Heraklion, Larnaca, Fuerteventura, Tenerife, Sharm el Sheikh, Hurghada, Alexandria, Kharkiv, Pristina, Antalya, Bodrum, Keflavik, Tirgu Mures, Constanta, Satu Mare, Dubrovnik, Split, Faro, Nice, Prague and Tallinn. In total, Wizz will offer service to 57 destinations from Rome in 2021.
