On Wednesday (September 4, 2024), Wizz Air announced their first route to be operated with their first new Airbus A321XLR (Extra Long Range).  Starting June 2, 2025, the carrier’s new A321XLR will be based at Milan Malpensa Airport, and the first route will be daily direct service between Milan and Abu Dhabi.  According to the carrier, their fares on this route will be 70 percent lower than the current competition’s offer.  The approximately seven hour route will leverage the A321XLR’s extended range and efficiency, showcasing the aircraft’s potential to revolutionize intercontinental travel.  During 2025, Wizz Air expects to receive eight Airbus A321XLRs out of a total of 47 on order.

Speaking at a press conference in  Milan earlier today, Wizz Air’s CEO, József Váradi, said.

“The Airbus A321XLR is the most cost-efficient aircraft of its class and, given the enhanced range capability, it enables Wizz Air to connect the furthest destinations in its network and further expand it, connecting cultures and continents.  We’re excited to unlock unbeatable fares for our customers on the newly announced route to Abu Dhabi, while offering the most sustainable option for flying. We are already flying several 5-6 hour long ultra-low-cost routes with great satisfaction to our customers, and the XLR will extend our outstanding value proposition to 7-8-hour long flights.”

Budapest, Hungary-based Wizz Air is the fastest growing European ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) and operates an all Airbus A320 and A321 Family fleet of over 220 aircraft.  Wizz Air is the largest ULCC in Central and Eastern Europe and serves over 1,100 routes to/from 50 countries.  During FY 2024, ending March 31, 2024, Wizz carried 62 million guests.  Wizz Air offers superior guest service at exceptionally low fares.  Shares in the company trade on the London Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol WIZZ.
